PicoPCMCIA: The Swiss Army knife for A1200

PicoPCMCIA is a 16-bit PCMCIA card developed by YYZKevin for retro computers, including the Amiga 1200. It is based on the RP2350 microcontroller and integrates different expansion functions into a single card.

The device incorporates 2,4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, capable of emulating an NE2000 network card or a modem. It also features a stereo audio codec, a General MIDI synthesizer based on the DREAM SAM2695, and emulation of Sound Blaster and Gravis Ultrasound.

PicoPCMCIA also allows emulation of a Panasonic MKE CD-ROM drive and the use of ISO or BIN/CUE images stored on a microSD card. It features USB, Bluetooth, and support for peripherals such as mice and gamepads, although some of these functions are still under development.

The project continues to evolve and its developer is conducting tests with different platforms, including the Amiga 1200. The first units are priced at $160, with a refundable $50 reservation deposit.

Amiberry 8.3 adds support for ZZ9000 and RP9 packages

Version 8.3.0 of the popular emulator has been released Amiga "Amiberry", an update that incorporates important new features focused on compatibility, performance and user experience.

Key features include full support for the ZZ9000 graphics card, including RTG acceleration and compatibility with the latest Picasso96 drivers. It also adds support for RP9 packages, allowing you to install and run this format directly from the emulator.

The new version introduces a native shader engine with persistent settings, a revamped organization of configurations using drop-down categories, and a centralized panel for global settings. Furthermore, the Windows graphical interface now runs in a separate window, matching the behavior of Linux and macOS.

In terms of performance, Amiberry 8.3 improves emulation on Raspberry Pi 4, optimizes renderer performance, and fixes various problems related to PowerPC emulation and the JIT system.

The update also includes numerous fixes for components such as the Motorola 68030 MMU, SCSI systems, Picasso96, Ethernet, AutoCrop, and Voodoo3 cards. Additionally, multiple bugs related to the graphical interface, cursor management, and compatibility with controllers and external devices have been resolved.

The Android version receives significant improvements in initial setup, ROM management, and the user interface, while the Libretro kernel incorporates new image cropping options and support for status lines.

Finally, Amiberry updates several important dependencies, including SDL 3.4.14, ImGui and Capsimage, as well as integrating the latest improvements from WinUAE.

Framethrower for PiStorm A500 now available

The long-awaited Framethrower for PiStorm A500, developed by Michal Schulz y Claude Schwarz, creators of the project PiStormand manufactured by Archi-TECH (Piotr Adamczyk)This new module represents a decisive step forward in the integration of native video. Amiga with the modern graphics capabilities of the Raspberry Pi.

El Framethrower allow redirect the RGB signal coming from the original chipsets of the Amiga (Agnus and Denise) to the CSI (Camera Serial Interface) input of the Raspberry Pi. In this way, both the native output of the Amiga as the RTG graph generated by the PiStorm are combined in a single HDMI output, which can be displayed on any modern monitor.

Thanks to this system, it is possible to visualize games, demos and classic screens of Amiga within a window in the Workbench o full screenwithout the need for external devices or additional converters. Everything is managed internally, as if both signals were a single signal.

The module incorporates a RP2350 microcontroller, the same one that integrates the Raspberry Pi Pico 2, a chip of 32-bit dual-core (ARM Cortex-M33 and/or Hazard3 RISC-V), responsible for managing the synchronization and processing of the video stream between the PiStorm and the Amiga.
